Here, in our eyebuddy glossary, you will find what you need to know about eye-care and eye-wear.
Rimless
Rimless spectacles do not have a frame; rather the lenses are mounted in front of the eyes by being attached to a bridge piece and side pieces to hold the lenses in place.
Rimless glasses remain extremely popular with people who prize unobtrusiveness, lightness and comfort above all else. To ensure that your rimless glasses are as unobtrusive as possible be sure to request anti-reflection coated lenses.
In order to ensure durability and strength standard lenses are unsuitable – it is necessary to use high impact resistance lenses such as polycarbonate or one of the higher refractive index plastics in order to ensure the lenses don’t break in normal use. Additionally the lenses must be drilled, and they are often grooved and chamfered in order to accommodate the mount. This involves specialist equipment and highly skilled Eyebuddy technicians, because of this the lenses cost a bit more. But they’re worth it and you won’t get better value than Eyebuddy. |
