Here, in our eyebuddy glossary, you will find what you need to know about eye-care and eye-wear.
Contact lens prescription
Your contact lens prescription includes the power and fitting details of your contact lenses and is specific to the individual brand of lenses you use – it is not possible to change brand without seeing a contact lens optician.
You are legally entitled to your contact lens prescription but only if you have had a recent check up on your lenses (within 12 months usually) and it will usually be dated for 12 months from the last check up – hence if it is a while since your last aftercare appointment your prescription may have expired. Your prescription must have at least 6 months left before its expiry date for Eyebuddy to be able dispense it legally and at that point you can order no more than 6 months supply of lenses.
Additionally if you sleep in your lenses or have a medical condition that needs monitoring (you may be on a scheme where you collect lenses from your optician every 3 months and have a check up each time you collect) then the optician is likely to only issue a prescription that is valid for 3 months which unfortunately can’t legally be dispensed except by the prescriber. If you sleep in your lenses Eyebuddy is not able to supply you and you should continue to buy lenses from your optician or ask to be refitted with daily disposables or reusable lenses that you take out each night.
When entering your prescription details to order contact lenses you do not necessarily need a copy of the prescription as you can find your prescription details on the packaging of your current lenses. Eyebuddy will however require your optician’s details in every case in order that we can verify that the lenses we will supply are the correct ones.
